History of Cab Franc Day
The first celebration of Cab Franc Day was observed in the year 2015. It is otherwise called Cabernet Franc Day. Cab Franc is one of the important black grape species grown in all parts of the world. It is one of the three most important grape varieties used in wine manufacturing. They are mainly grown for blending with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style and can also be vinified alone, as in the Loire’s Chinon. In addition to being used in blends, it is made into ice wine.
Cabernet Franc is usually lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon. It makes a bright pale red wine that contributes finesse and lends a spicy perfume that blends with more robust grapes. Cabernet Franc is believed to have been founded in the Libournais region of southwest France sometime in the 17th century. The records of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux dates back to the end of the 18th century. However, it was planted in the Loire earlier in this period.
