World Orphans Day is celebrated on the second Monday of every November. This year, it will be observed on November 11. The day was created to raise awareness about the plight of orphans and displaced children worldwide. It serves as a reminder to focus on the situation of the world’s orphans and to take action in raising awareness, providing support, and securing funding for children who have lost their parents.
“Be generous to the poor orphans and those in need. The man to whom our Lord has been liberal ought not to be stingy. We shall one day find in Heaven as much rest and joy as we ourselves have dispensed in this life.” – Saint Ignatius

History of World Orphans Day
World Orphans Day was created by the Stars Foundation in 2006 as a flagship event to raise awareness about the millions of children around the world who have lost their parents. The Romans were the first to take action, establishing the first orphanage in 400 AD to care for orphaned children. Later, orphaned children were cared for by churches in Medieval Europe. By the early 1900s, the number of orphans in England had grown significantly. Modern research has shown that orphanages were among the worst possible care options for children, as they often fail to provide proper attention, which led to an increase in the adoption of children from orphanages.
