World Lindy Hop Day is celebrated on May 26 of every year. The day supports people from all different backgrounds to enjoy and share the many benefits of this happy and enduring dance. Lindy Hop is otherwise called a Jitterbug. Lindy Hop or Jitterbug is a two-person dance where the partners dance hand in hand to the jazz music. So, World Lindy Hop Day is a day to put on your dancing shoes and do the Lindy Hop.
“When I first started out, I was really attracted to having my own sense of style because I started swing dancing, lindy hop, and jitterbug.” – Katy Perry
History of World Lindy Hop Day
The World Lindy Hop Day honors the birthday of Frankie Manning, the prime of Lindy hop dance and he is the most influential person in swing dance history. After the decline in popularity in the 1950s, this form of swing music attracted many followers with its undeniable vitality. The universal sign of the Lindy Hop features the creative and exhilarating movements which allow the partners to connect in a method that uplifts the spirit, promotes human connection, and develops generosity. It allows the dancers to meet in a particular environment that supports the building of bridges on personal, community, and global levels. Every year, Toronto has hosted a celebration promoting the spirit of Frankie Manning.
