History of World Day of Bullying Prevention
The first Monday of October is the World Day of Bullying Prevention. It was established by David Shepherd and Travis Price for the first time. Since 2009, the day has been observed as an awareness day against bullying. David Shepherd and Travis Price created this day when they saw a student Jadrien Cota, who wore a pink shirt for the first day of school in 2007, was bullied. They bought and distributed 50 pink shirts the next day to stand against the bullying. It then spread around the world in no time. Gordon Campbell, the Premier of British Columbia, had proclaimed a provincial anti-bullying day in 2008. It then continued to spread till 2012, when the United Nations took this celebration into an Anti-Bullying campaign globally. Various countries celebrate this day on different dates which, however, aims the same as this celebration.
