Volunteer Recognition Day is observed on April 20 of every year. Volunteer Recognition Day is celebrated to honor and respect all volunteers around the world who are helping others without expecting anything in return. These volunteers dedicated themselves and large parts of their lives to helping the needy. These people make a huge or small difference in the lives of many people across the world. Volunteers assist in saving lives and are rendering moral and financial support to improve the lives of millions of people.
“Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.” – H. Jackson Brown Jr.
History of Volunteer Recognition Day
The origin and history of Volunteer Recognition Day are not known. Volunteers are people who have endangered their safety and life to help others expecting nothing in return. Volunteering is known as a selfless activity, and it upgrades the human quality of life. These volunteers do not get any financial or material gain in return; they do this activity to get a feeling of self-worth. Volunteering also helps in skill development, and it is energizing and fulfilling. One such volunteer is Mother Theresa of India, a Catholic nun who spent a large part of her life in India caring for and helping people suffering from tuberculosis, AIDS, and leprosy. Another example of a volunteer is Florence Nightingale, mostly called the mother of modern nursing. She is just like a superhero; she risked her own life to care for wounded soldiers in the Crimean War.
