Vitamin C Day is celebrated on April 4 of every year. The day is marked to educate people about the importance of adding vitamin C to one’s diet. It is necessary to take vitamins in an adequate amount daily to stay away from many diseases. It helps to improve and regenerate tissues, protect against heart disease, prevent scurvy, and decrease bad cholesterol. The deficiency can cause fatigue, muscle weakness, joint and muscle aches, bleeding gums, and leg rashes. An acute deficiency may result in scurvy, which is a dangerous threat to human life. It can be obtained from apples, asparagus, berries, broccoli, cabbage, melon, cauliflower, citrus fruits, kiwi, dark leafy greens, bell peppers, potatoes, and tomatoes. So take vitamin c regularly which will act as a defense mechanism, protect you against that cold, and help you stay happy.
“Faith and prayer are the vitamins of the soul; man cannot live in health without them.”- Mahalia Jackson
History of Vitamin C Day
The creator and the reason behind the creation of the day remain obscure. British physician Sir Thomas Barlow was the first one to describe scurvy and the cure for the disease with Vitamin C in the 19th century. Scurvy was known for more than a century prior. Scurvy was a deadly disease that killed many British sailors during their long sea voyages. Nowadays, very few people suffer from scurvy, and it is considered one of the most important nutrients found in food immensely.
