National Teach Your Children to Save Day
National Teach Your Children to Save Day is celebrated on April 20 of this year., but it will change annually. National Teach Your Children to Save Day is created with the aim of raising awareness about saving money and encourage young children to build a good habit of keeping the money as soon as possible in their life. National Teach Your Children to Save Day is volunteered by Bankers across the country and also around the world each year to teach kids to save money.
“The habit of saving is itself an education; it fosters every virtue, teaches self-denial, cultivates the sense of order, trains to forethought, and so broadens the mind”. – T.T. Munger.
History of National Teach Your Children to Save Day
National Teach Your Children to Save Day is established by the American Bankers Association (ABA). This day is started in the year 1997, from that time American Bankers Association has been teaching young children the habit of saving through this educational program. ABA recommends everyone to teach their children to split their money into four according to the “10% / 30% / 30% / 30%” system and put the divided money into four separate labelled clear glass containers. Clear Glass jars are best because everyone likes watching their money grow. According to the system,10% is for charity, 30% for Quick Cash, another 30% for Medium-term Savings, and the last 30% is for Long-term Savings. Teaching these saving habits at a very young age builds a foundation for a lifetime of saving.
