The fashion wardrobe of any woman will definitely have a rack filled with skirts. Skirts were worn since prehistoric times and it means they were in existence even before stitching machines were invented. The skirts have been worn by women of all age groups from kids to adults as it gives so much comfort to the wearer. So why not celebrate this ancient fashion clothing called skirts with its special day in the calendar? Thus Skirt Day has been created and it celebrates all the different types of skirts.

History of Skirt Day
Skirt Day’s history and origin are unknown. There isn’t any mention of the creator and the first observance of this celebration Day anywhere. However, Skirt’s history is far older than anyone might think as it is found from prehistoric times. A skirt is the lower part of a dress or gown that usually covers the person from the waist downwards. Skirts are the simplest way to cover the lower part of a body as the pants were not at hand for a very long time and thus skirts were worn by both men and women in the ancient period. The oldest known skirt was discovered in Armenia at the Areni-1 cave complex dating to 3.900 BC and it was found to be woven from the straw and was known to have been worn by both men and women alike.
A skirt is a draped garment made out of a single piece of material. Most skirts are self-standing garments that are fitted to the body at the waist or hips. Some skirt-looking panels may be a part of another garment like leggings, shorts, and swimsuits. The skirt’s hemline can vary from micro to floor length. Sometimes it also varies according to the cultural conceptions of modesty, aesthetics, and the wearer’s personal taste that are socially and fashionably influenced context. The modern-day skirts are usually made of light to mid-weight fabrics like denim, jersey, worsted, poplin. Those skirts of thin or clingy fabrics are worn with slips often to make the material of the skirt drape better and for modesty.
