Pocky Day is celebrated annually on November 11. In Japan, Pocky is a popular treat that can be found in many places and is even served in bars, often accompanied by a glass of ice water. Pocky also enjoys widespread popularity in other Asian countries, including China, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan, Burma, Vietnam, and Brunei. In Malaysia, Pocky was sold under the name “Rocky” for four decades before being rebranded to “Pocky” in 2014, with a refreshed package design and a new slogan. “Beat Me Up, I Wouldn’t Care…Make Fun of Me, I Still Wouldn’t Care…Eat My Pocky, You’re getting Personal.”

History of Pocky Day
Ezaki Glico Food Corporation established “Pocky Day” in 1999. The company initially created a breadstick snack called “Pretz” in 1963. Three years later, they decided to create a sweet stick snack by coating Pretz in chocolate. However, coating the entire stick was impractical for eating. To solve this, they left one end uncoated as a “handle,” providing a better eating experience. They initially named this new product “Chocotekku,” inspired by “tekuteku,” a Japanese term that mimics the sound of walking. However, since another company had already trademarked that name, Glico chose the name “Pocky” instead, derived from “pokkin,” which is the sound of something long snapping in two. And that’s how Pocky was born.
Today, Pocky is available in a wide range of flavors, including chocolate, strawberry, and almond. Unique seasonal flavors include honey (for spring) and kiwifruit mango (for summer). The bittersweet chocolate version is called “Men’s Pocky.” Regional flavors feature grape, Yubari melon, giant Mikan, powdered tea azuki bean, Kobe wine, and a five-fusion berry blend.
Beyond these, Pocky offers a variety of other flavors like banana, coffee, lychee, caramel, melon, marble royal milk tea, Daim bar, milk, honey and milk, cream cheese, berry, sweet potato, coconut, crushed almond, corn on the cob, pineapple, pumpkin, black sesame (kurogoma), roasted soybean flour (kinako), Brazilian pudding, chestnut (marron), tomato, cherry, orange, blueberry, apple yogurt, mixed berry, hazelnut, and green tea. With so many options, Pocky Day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy your favorite flavor!
