According to urban legend, the Teddy Bear, one of the world’s most beloved plush animals, was inspired by an incident involving U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. During a hunting trip, he famously refused to shoot a baby bear, leading to the creation of the Teddy Bear in his honor. The celebration of Plush Animal Lover’s Day is thought to have started after Royal Selangor, a collectibles dealer, introduced the idea of a “Teddy Bears Picnic Day” in the late 1980s. As the story goes, other plush toys grew “jealous” that Teddy Bears had a dedicated day and called for a celebration of their own. Thus, Teddy Bears Picnic Day was soon replaced by Plush Animal Lovers Day.
