National Pet Day is celebrated on April 11 of every year. National Pet Day is marked with an emphasis on people showing some extra care, love, and attention to their pets. The day is also about encouraging adoption. The main aim of the day is to spread the motto, i.e., Don’t shop! Adopt. Cats and dogs are the most popular pet kinds. Though the variety of fish, birds, guinea pigs, snakes, rabbits, and many other animals are also owned as pets. Pets bring unconditional love into our lives and they make our life so much better. No animal should ever suffer, especially in the hands of humans. So on this day, we must help our pet animals have a better life.
“Until one has loved an animal a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” – Anatole France
History of National Pet Day
National Pet Day was founded by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige in 2006. This event is sponsored by the Animal Miracle Foundation, whose mission is to help animals in shelters to find permanent homes. The reason for the creation of the day is to celebrate the pets, as they bring enormous joy into our lives, and also to spread awareness about adopting homeless pets over buying. It is important to spread the news because many animals are waiting all around the world for a home.

How to Celebrate the Day
There are different ways to celebrate this day. On this day, shower your pets with loads of love by buying them some special treats and toys. Spend some time playing and taking them for a walk. If you do not own a pet then today is the perfect day to bring a pet from a shelter to your home. One can do volunteer work for their local shelters by taking care of the pet for a day or two.
