Nothing Like A Dame Day is celebrated on April 17 of every year. Dame is a title used in front of a woman’s name that is given in Britain as a special honor, usually for valuable work done over an extended period, or for a woman having this celebration. It also has the other meaning of matronly woman of advanced age or an older married woman, especially one who is dignified. Often judged offensive by the females, unless you are from another century. It is a day to celebrate to honor the ladies of the theatre to mark their moralistic and bitter simple nature through the opportunity to grab a boa, glue on some spidery lashes, and so on. In Great Britain, where there is less of a theatre tradition, Nothing Like Dame Day is more likely to celebrate their comic middle-aged female character in modern pantomime, usually played by a man. These men, dressed very unconvincingly as women, are a comical staple of their family shows at Christmas time.
