International Ninja Day is an annual celebration held on December 5th each year. Ninjas are covert agents known for their skills in espionage, sabotage, assassination, infiltration, and guerrilla warfare. This day is dedicated to honoring these sneaky, secretive warriors. Clad in black garments, ninjas leave no trace of their presence. While most people today have never encountered a real ninja, we continue to enjoy their brilliant actions in movies. Make this fun celebration even more special by camouflaging yourself in ninja-style attire.
“Growing up as a kid, I wanted to be a ninja. In martial arts, even though I did Chinese kung fu, I always wanted to be this secret samurai or a ninja. There’s something about ninjas that was very appealing to me as a kid. So of course, I was climbing a lot of trees and other things and getting up to mischief – good mischief.” – Ray Park

History of International Ninja Day
The first International Ninja Day was celebrated in 2003, marking the creation of Ninja Burger. This observance aims to highlight the speed with which Ninja Burger delivers its products. It also commemorates the release of The Last Samurai, a Tom Cruise film.
Ninjas, also known as shinobi, were professional spies in Japan. They were skilled warriors from the Iga Province during the Sengoku period, existing between the 13th and 19th centuries. These ninjas were trained spies and mercenaries, known for being cunning, brave, secretive, and skilled fighters.
Ninjas were not elite warriors but were often raised by ordinary people in the countryside. They lacked access to the armor, weapons, and formal training given to higher-class soldiers. Many of their weapons originated from agricultural tools. Unlike the all-black outfits often depicted in modern films, TV shows, and books, ninjas during that time dressed like local civilians. Their main responsibility as spies was to blend in with their surroundings to carry out their missions. As a result, they were difficult to identify based on their clothing, banners, weapons, or nationality.
