“Playfulness. We’ve baked Mallomars and Rice Krispies treats, made milkshakes, and even built a macaron cake in the shape of a Christmas tree. These items remind people of their childhood; we just recreate them with adult flavors.” – David Castle
History of National Rice Krispie Treat Day
The Rice Krispie Treat Day was first celebrated in the year 2005. The Rice Krispies was introduced by Kellogg’s Company for the first time in 1928 and was a moderate success. The delicious dessert was first named Puffed Wheat Squares. A decade later, it has become a popular breakfast cereal. It is a dessert made by the combination of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies with a mix of margarine or butter and melted marshmallows or marshmallow creme. At times, the marshmallows can be replaced with a binding agent like caramel or syrup. Mildred Day was a Campfire Girls troop leader who, on seeking an inexpensive fundraiser idea, mixed the cereal with butter, and hence the Rice Krispie was born. Melitta Jensen and Mildred Day, who were Kellogg’s employees, are credited for their invention of a promotional vehicle for the cereal in 1939.
