National Cognac Day is celebrated on June 4th of every year. Cognac Day is observed from coast to coast every year. The Cognac Day is dedicated to one of the rich beverages, and one of the most prominent too. A Cognac is a form of distilled alcohol carrying a bit of nobility, culture, and a social grandeur that other alcohols fail to have. Cognac reminds you of the rich red of mahogany in the hands of high-class gentlemen. Cognac comes from a white wine got from one of the six regions and is to be noted because if it is not produced from the white wine from these regions, then it is not a true Cognac anymore.
“It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend, one’s present or future thirst, the excellence of the cognac, or any other reason.” – W. C. Fields
History of National Cognac Day
The Cognac was named after a town in France called “Cognac“. It is produced in a wine-growing region surrounding the town which takes its name. To bear the name Cognac you will have to maintain certain guidelines during the production. The first and main requirement is that you will have to use a particular variety of grapes called Ugni Blanc. Also, you will have to distill the brandy twice in copper pot stills. The brandy must be aged at least 2 years in French oak barrels from Limousin or Troncais. But most cognacs are aged much more than the basic requirement. There are more than 200 cognac producers. According to one 2008 estimate, more than 90% of the cognac for the U.S. market comes from only four producers.
