National Bookmobile Day is celebrated across the country on the Wednesday of National Library Week, held in April every year. This year it falls on April 6. A day to recognize the contributions made by the nation’s bookmobiles and the devoted professionals who make the reach of quality books possible to their communities. The bookmobile is a large vehicle designed to be used as a library. It provides mostly the same kind of services as the local library. It was initially started horse-drawn to spread good literature in rural areas. Modern bookmobiles provide access to books, magazines, videos, journals, CDs, and much more. Bookmobile plays a vital role in delivering library services around the country.
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” – Charles William Eliot
