History of National Banana Day
The National Banana Day‘s history and origin are unknown. And there is no record found about its first observance and the person who has come up with this idea of celebrating the bananas. However, the history of bananas is very long, and that cannot be traced accurately. But the cultivation of bananas started somewhere around 5000 to 8000 BCE. As the term banana itself is a common name for the plants that produce the banana fruit, we could assume that this Day is for both the plant and fruit. Banana Day might have been created with an intention to celebrate bananas, and their health benefits, and might be those who love eating too. The students at many prestigious universities in America are using this Day as a way of celebrating bananas, a humble lunchbox standard.
The banana is found to be one of the most popular fruits consumed in the world. The bananas are edible fruit that will be grown in clusters hanging from the top of the plant. Each cluster is called a hand, and a single banana is referred to be a finger. Thus each banana hand will have about 10 to 20 fingers. Typically, bananas will be variable in size, color, and firmness. It is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh rich in starch. The flesh will be covered with a rind that may be green, yellow, red, purple, or brown when the fruit gets matured. The banana plant is the largest herbaceous flowering plant which usually grows in a wide variety of soils from the lowermost portion called a corm. Once the banana plant is mature, the corm stops producing new leaves and starts flowering. The flowers become fruits that have been described as leathery berries.
The table banana and the plantain or cooking banana are two main classifications of banana, and there were almost 1000 varieties found to be in existence. Although bananas are often mentioned as growing on trees, the banana isn’t a tree but is actually a herb. Thus the banana that comes from the plant is the fruit of this herb. They are grown and harvested all throughout the year and are harvested after 8 to 10 months. Bananas are found to become from the jungles of Southeast Asia, and from there the Portuguese have brought them to America. Bananas possess higher fiber and potassium contents. Bananas help to reach your weight-loss goals, provide nutrients for regulating heart rhythm, prevent calcium loss, high blood pressure, ulcers, certain kinds of cancer and provide vitamin compounds for eye health. India is found to be the largest producer of more bananas than any other country and accounting for nearly 28 percent of the worldwide crop.
