National Author’s Day is celebrated on November 1 every year. This day honors authors and encourages every writer to keep working on their magnum opus. Writing a novel or even a short story is challenging, and achieving their dreams requires perseverance. Take this day to encourage all authors to write their favorite books and express gratitude to every writer and author around you in any way you can. Authors’ Day celebrates the incredible creations that these talented souls bring into the world through the power of their pens.
All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand. – George Orwell

History of National Author’s Day
The origins of National Author’s Day are still unclear. In 1928, Nellie Verne Burt McPherson, the president of the Bement, Illinois Women’s Club, proposed dedicating a day to honor American authors. A teacher and avid reader throughout her life, McPherson was inspired to do this after a meaningful experience during World War I. While recovering in the hospital, she wrote a fan letter to Irving Bacheller, a fiction writer, to express her appreciation for his story Eben Holden’s Last Day A’ Fishin. In response, Bacheller sent her an autographed copy of another work. Moved by his thoughtful gesture, McPherson felt she could never fully express her gratitude, and this realization inspired her to advocate for a day to recognize and celebrate authors.
