Mickey Mouse Day is an annual celebration observed on November 18th of every year. We are celebrating the birthday of the world-famous mouse of Disney land. It is the famous and ever-lovable cartoon character created by Walt Disney. The fame of the mouse made its face painted on mugs to walls and his iconic ears are recognized everywhere. The mouse has occupied a special place in the hearts of children. The day celebrates the debut of Micky in the Steamboat Willie short film. It is the perfect time to celebrate the birthday of an all-time favorite animated mouse.
“Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner.” – Walt Disney
History of Mickey Mouse Day
The founder and the year at which Mickey Mouse Day was first celebrated are unknown. It is a funny animal cartoon character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios. The character was debuted for the first time in the short film named Steamboat Willie. The date was precisely chosen as the mouse was introduced in the big-screen debut on November 18 in the year 1928. The character is recognized to be one of the first sound cartoons. The mouse is an anthropomorphic mouse that typically wears red shorts with large yellow shoes and white gloves.
Mickey usually appears alongside his girlfriend Minnie, his pet dog Pluto, his friends Donald Duck, Goofy, with his nemesis Pete. The Mouse was created as a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, an earlier cartoon character. Soon the Mickey has become one of the world’s most recognizable characters. Within a year, Mickey Mouse Club was popped up in Salem, Oregon, and had spread across the country. His popularity made him the first animated character to receive a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. A makeover by the animator Fred Moore in 1935 gave Mickey a look at what we are familiar with today.
