History of Lighthouse Day
On August 7, 1789, Lighthouse Day was established by the 9th act of the first Congress which placed lighthouses under federal control. The day targets to recognize the importance of lighthouses in maritime navigation and for helping ships safe harbor during bad weather. Lighthouse protects from the fog, reefs, rocks, and other hazards of the coastline. The electricity and the light bulb paved the way for the current lighthouse, the rotating light that is done with the amazing creative positioning of mirror and motor to spin a curved mirror. Legislation to declare August 7 as Lighthouse Day and was introduced by Congress in the spring of 1988 and was signed by the President on November 5.
