International Tiger Day is observed on 29th July of every year. The day is also called Global Tiger Day. This day is celebrated every year to raise awareness for tiger conservation. The tiger is the largest big cat and this remarkable creature, with its unique black and orange stripes and attractively marked face, has a day that is dedicated to it. This day is celebrated to protect the tiger habitats and to gain support through awareness for tiger protection as it has been found over 97% of wild tigers had disappeared in the last century, with only around 3,000 left alive.
“Save the tigers before they are silenced forever, For the tiger, we must unite, so they don’t fade out of sight, Don’t strip the stripes from the scenery. Save the Tiger”
History of International Tiger Day
The International Tiger Day was initially founded at the St. Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010. The summit had issued a St. Petersburg statement on Tiger protection with an aim to increase the tiger population by 2022 as the Tigers are on the verge of extinction and the day brings attention to this fact and tries to stop their decrease. Many factors lead to their decreases in habitat loss, hunting, poaching, and climate change, so International Tiger Day aims to preserve and increase their habitats and raise awareness of the need for protection. Many international organizations like the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the International Fund for Animal Welfare ( IFAW), etc. are involved in the celebration. The primary goal of this day is to stimulate a global system for conserving the wild habitats of tigers and to increase public awareness and support for tiger protection issues.
