International Kissing Day or World Kissing Day or Kissing Day is celebrated on July 6 of every year. International Kissing Day aims to make us appreciate the kiss on its right. No conventions, no social norms, just a kiss. Across the world, we embrace the kiss by hugging someone else. Kissing is one of the best-recognized gestures in the world as its holds culture-specific meaning and importance. In a few cultures kissing between people of the opposite sex is scowled upon while in others kissing is recognized as a symbol of affection and is only reserved as a method to convey love. In some cultures, kissing is a great sign of respect, friendship, and greeting.
“The thing that I think is the most important is taking moments to express your appreciation to your partner. A thank you or a quick kiss can go a long way toward affirming your relationship and commitment to each other. That’s not hard to do even when you’re juggling insane careers and three kids.” – Michael Ian Black
History of International Kissing Day
The creator or founder of International Kissing Day is still unknown. There is thought that it begins in the UK, but it became famous throughout the world. A kiss is an act of pressing one’s lips against the lips or other parts of the body of another. The Cultural connotations of kissing may vary widely across the world. The kiss is a way to express the sentiments of love, passion, affection, respect, greeting, friendship, happiness, and much more. Scientists and anthropologists have suggested two different theories of why humans kiss. The first theory is that kissing is a behavior that evolved from kiss feeding, where mothers fed their children chewed up food through their mouths. The next theory implies that kissing is an instinct that humans have had throughout the history of humankind. On 13th February 2011, Thai couples named Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat hold the record for the longest kiss. They locked lips and started their journey to break the longest kiss record. Later 46 hours and 24 minutes, they claimed a new record for the longest kiss in the world.
