International Homeless Animals Day is observed annually, and it falls on August 19 of this year. The aim of the Homeless Animals Day celebration is to educate people about the threats faced by all the homeless animals. The day further helps in improving the quality of life for those homeless animals. Adapt them and save a life, treat them as a part of your family, and celebrate credibly.
“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” – Karen Davison
History of International Homeless Animals Day
The International Homeless Animals Day was first established by the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) in the year 1992. The day was observed to bring awareness to the people in society to know about the menaces faced by numerous homeless animals. In precise, the day is observed to bring light to those living beings who are left homeless due to increasing problems of pet overpopulation. Due to the growing number of animal welfare and protection organizations that started participating in National Homeless Animals Day, the day was renamed International Homeless Animals Day. ISAR reserved every third Saturday of August as the annual day for commemorating the day. ISAR also promotes awareness about the importance of spaying or neutering the animals and thereby preventing them from unwanted breeding. Various organizations from all over the world hold movements in an attempt to increase the perception about pet overpopulation and the reason for the homelessness of animals. Also, the day marks a special tribute to the people who are providing shelter or working and helping to rescue those homeless animals. It is also observed in the memory of several animals who had lost their lives because of homelessness.
