International Day of Older Persons (World Elderly Day) is celebrated on the 1st of October every year. The day is celebrated every year to ensure the welfare of elderly persons as well as to enroll their significant association in society to get promoted from their knowledge and their ability. The Plan of Action on Ageing was chosen by the World Assembly on Aging to encourage social development for all ages. The day is celebrated worldwide to examine issues, promote public awareness, and focus on which type of behavior can help older men and women throughout their lives.
History of International Day of Older Persons
It was first established on the 14th of December in the year 1990 by the United Nations General Assembly. It started celebrating for the first time on October 1st in the year 1991 to make the people about issues which affect the elders as well as to appreciate their contribution towards the society.
