The International Day of Charity was recognized annually on 5th September. It was reported by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. The prime goal of the International Day of Charity or International Charity Day is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for similar charity activities all over the world for individuals, charitable, philanthropic, and volunteer organizations for their purposes on the local, national, regional, and international level.
“Charity bestowed upon those who are worthy of it is like good seed sown on a good soil that yields an abundance of fruits. But alms given to those who are yet under the tyrannical yoke of the passions are like seed deposited in a bad soil. The passions of the receiver of the alms choke, as it were, the growth of merits.” – Buddha
Every year, foundations all over the world assistant to save and improve people’s lives, fighting disease, preserving children, and giving hope to many thousands of individuals. To honor the significant work that these many charities do, in 2012 the United Nations determined to choose an annual International Day of Charity as an official day of recognition and celebration. The purpose of the date was chosen is that it is the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. This choice honors the tireless work that Mother Teresa did by devoting her whole life to charity work.
History of International Day of Charity
The International Day of Charity or International Charity Day was considered as a Hungarian civil society initiative supported by the Hungarian Parliament and Government in 2011, to enhance visibility, organize specific events, and in this way to increase solidarity, social accountability, and public support for the charity. September 5 was determined to commemorate the anniversary of the crossing away from of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who hosted the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also create a threat to peace.”
On 17 December 2012, in response to a proposal by Hungary, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus to assign 5 September as the International Day of Charity. The determination was co-sponsored by 44 UN Member States representing all five Regional Groups of the United Nations. In its decision, the General Assembly invited the Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and local agencies, stakeholders, as well as NGOs of the civil society, to celebrate the International Day of Charity appropriately, by encouraging charity, including through education and public awareness-raising activities.

How To Celebrate International Day Of Charity
The United Nations on this day beckons all of the member states, various organizations and businesses, and all of us citizens to feast the day by contributing to charity work in any way we can. The UN encourages charity donations, promoting education and awareness-raising activities to push the importance of charity. Grant Money and most charities rely heavily on donations from people just like you. Find an institution you feel passionately about and make a donation to one of their programs. It doesn’t have to be full! Even $5 or $10 can make a variety. Distribute Goods or Materials, consider donating items from your house that you no longer need or use to a local charity. Spreading things like non-perishable food items to a food bank or clothes to a desolate shelter is an easy, but remarkably helpful, way that you can help those in requirement.
Random Acts of Mercy, you may not have the time to spend an entire day volunteering or the money to devote to a donation, but everyone has time for random acts of kindness As you go throughout your day, remember about simple ways you can help others. Do a routine without being asked, be kind to people at school even if they’re not kind to you, or go out of your way to do something nice for someone. As Mother Teresa once told, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do tiny things with great love.” You can use the hashtag # International Day of Charity to post on social media.
