International Dance Day is celebrated on the April 29 of every year. The day is otherwise called World Dance Day or Dance Day. The primary purpose of Dance Day is to attract the attention of the wider public to the art of dance. Emphasis should be given to addressing a new public, people who do not follow dance events during the year. April 29 was selected to commemorate the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, a French dancer and ballet master and a great reformer of dance who was born in 1727.
“I am so not a proper, good female. I can’t dance in high heels and I’m just so not girly, but then I see these men with these banging bodies, dancing in heels, singing, and having so much fun with so much make-up on. That makes me honestly want to be a better woman.” – Kesha
History of International Dance Day or World Dance Day
In 1982, the day was introduced by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute. Over the world, there are several events on World Dance Day, such as open-door courses, exhibitions, and articles concerning all kinds of dance, dance evenings, street shows, individual performances, etc. Moreover, every year a message from a well-known dance personality is circulated throughout the world. We express ourselves when we are dancing; it’s fun and one of the best forms of exercise. So that you will be having too much fun to realize you are working out at the same time. Hence, the day is a perfect day to attract the attention of the wider public to the art of dance. Every year, there will be a new theme to celebrate the day.
