National Horse Protection Day is celebrated on March 1 of every year. National Horse Protection Day is created to help horses that are abused, butchered, and without a home all around the world. Horses helped humans in many ways, they carried us and our luggage on their backs and traveled many long distances, but unfortunately, nowadays there is a lot of cruelty happening to these important and sweet animals. This day is created to address these issues and protect horses from these brutalities occurring against them.
“People on horses look better than they are. People in cars look worse than they are.” – Marya Mannes.
History of National Horse Protection Day
National Horse Protection Day was created by Colleen Page, a pet lifestyle expert and animal behaviorist in the year 2005. Colleen Page grew up around horses, so he created this day to create awareness about the issues that horses face today and to stop people from serving horses as food. Horses that are used for meat are bought from some private suppliers or hunters. In some places of the United States of America like California, selling or eating horse meat is considered illegal but in some countries eating horse meat is a culture. National Horse Protection Day’s main aim is to protect horses and to find forever homes for unwanted and abused horses. This day achieved success by saving many horses even on the slaughter truck. Similar to this, there is also Help a Horse Day founded by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
