National Fruitcake Toss Day is an annual celebration feasted on January 3rd of each year. Most often, fruitcakes are never asked for gifts that are received during the holiday season by many people. Once Christmas is over, Fruitcakes are the ones that would have occupied most of the space in your home. It is also the most unloved pastry item that is flavorless and sweet. If you love hating this cake, then it’s time to toss this ever-hated fruitcake. It is the perfect opportunity to open your door and throw away the old fruitcakes once the holidays are over.
“The worst gift is a fruitcake. There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other.” – Johnny Carson
History of National Fruitcake Toss Day
National Fruitcake Toss Day has been celebrated since 1995. Manitou Springs has created this celebration Day. The fun celebration Day helps people throw off the unwanted fruitcake once after the Christmas celebration. Every year, during the competition in Manitou Springs, using a range of inventive devices, the fruitcakes are thrown, flung, tossed, slingshots, and cannoned into the air. Fruitcake is made with chopped candied fruit and dried fruit, nuts, and spices and is soaked in spirits at times. It is the most often received gift during the holiday season, especially Christmas. People gift or re-gift the fruitcakes. Fruitcakes are considered to be the most leftovers once after the celebration. This celebration Day encourages people to toss those leftovers and have some new fruitcakes.
