Father’s Day is a special day in the world to celebrate fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the significance of fathers in society. In Catholic Europe, it has been feasted on March 19 (St. Joseph’s Day) since the Middle Ages. This celebration was carried by the Spanish and Portuguese to Latin America, where March 19 is usually still used for it, though many countries in Europe and the Americas have adopted the U.S. date, which is the third Sunday of June. It is feasted on various days in many parts of the world, most usually in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Mother’s Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents Day.
“Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad, and that’s why I call you dad, because you are so special to me. You taught me the game and you taught me how to play it right.” – Wade Boggs
History of Father’s Day
A traditional day for the observance of fatherhood in Catholic Europe is known to date back to at least the Middle Ages. It is celebrated on 19 March, as the feast day of Saint Joseph, who is designated as the fatherly Nutrition Domini (“Nourisher of the Lord”) in Catholicism and “the supposed father of Jesus” in southern European tradition. This presentation was brought to the Americans by the Spanish and Portuguese, and in Latin America, Father’s Day is still feasted on 19 March.
The Catholic Church actively promoted the custom of a celebration of fatherhood on St. Joseph’s day from both the last years of the 14th century and from the early 15th century, apparently on the initiative of the Franciscans. Father’s Day is feasted by Americans on the third Sunday in June. In the Coptic Church, the celebration of fatherhood is also observed on St Joseph’s Day, but the Copts celebrate this anniversary on July 20. This Coptic worship may date back to the fifth century.
India traditionally had a two-week festival since ancient days dedicated to celebrating ancestors called the Pitrupaksha. Father’s Day is not feasted in all of India. But is recognized on the same day as the USA, the third Sunday of June by mostly westernized urban centers. The event is not a public holiday. The day is celebrated only in bigger cities of India like Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and others. After this day was first recognized in the United States in 1908 and gradually gained popularity, Indian metropolitan cities, much later, followed suit by acknowledging this event. In India, the day is usually celebrated with children giving gifts like greeting cards, electronic gadgets, shirts, coffee mugs, or books to their fathers.

How To Celebrate Father’s Day
If you know his preferred meal, plan to cook it for him on Father’s day. You could also make him his favorite dessert. For instance, if he loves chocolate chip cookies, you could make some that are just for him. Being a father is a hard job. If you have a performance, you can give a toast in front of everyone that expresses your love and appreciation. If you do not possess a party, you can just tell him one-on-one. Father’s day doesn’t have to be about gifts, but if you intend to make or buy him a gift, try to get creative. Don’t just pull out a tie or a pair of socks. If you are buying him a gift, try to think of something he keeps mentioning or something you know he requires, but won’t buy for himself.
