National Doctors Day is an annual observance celebrated on March 30th of every year. When it comes to health issues, the first person who comes to our mind is the Doctors. They are the ones who carefully diagnose the problem, give necessary treatments, and provide the best advice to have good health. Doctors are called the lifesavers or the second god on the earth. In the present era, there are millions of doctors globally who belong to different specializations. On the whole, these professionals work day and night, serving humankind. All of us must be very thankful for the invaluable services given by these medical professionals to us. Thus, National Doctors Day has been celebrated all over the world as a way to honor and respect these professionals. Every good doctor needs to be acknowledged in a unique way for all the hard work and dedication they carry in saving a life. On this very special Day of theirs, we must appreciate the superior work they are providing to society and the people living in it.
“When we are sick, we want an uncommon doctor; when we have a construction job to do, we want an uncommon engineer, and when we are at war, we want an uncommon general. It is only when we get into politics that we are satisfied with the common man.” – Herbert Hoover
History of National Doctors Day
National Doctors Day has been celebrated since the year 1933 in the United States. Eudora Brown Almond of Winder, Georgia., has created this Day in honor of the Doctors. The reason for choosing this date is that it was on March 30, 1842, when the first ether anesthetic was used for surgery. Crawford W. Long M.D. administered it, and to mark the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery, Eudora Brown Almond, who was the wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, has come up with this Day. The Day recognizes the contributions of physicians to individual lives and communities. It is a worldwide celebration and varies with date depending on the commemoration event that is used to mark this day. Healthcare organizations are usually involved in celebrating this Day, though it is supposed to be celebrated by the patients and the benefactors of the healthcare industry.
In the first year of the celebration of this day in 1933, greeting cards were mailed, and flowers were placed on the graves of the doctors who had died. The red carnation is usually used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day. The United States House of Representatives had affirmed a resolution commemorating Doctors’ Day on March 30, 1958. Congress and the Senate had approved the legislation establishing National Doctors Day in the year 1990. President George Bush signed the resolution, and it has designated March 30th as National Doctors Day. The first National Doctors Day was celebrated in 1991.
A doctor is a professional who practices medicine and is called by other names like the physician, medical practitioner, or medical doctor. They actively indulge themselves in studying, diagnosing, finding the treatment of the disease or injury, and working in dealing with other physical and mental impairments. It is the doctors who take care of us all day, every day, and whenever we feel sick. Treatments vary with the cause of illness and the symptoms. Doctors are the ones who take care of us altogether and put us back again to our normal state. Doctors are the most potent professionals, and they diagnose and treat their patients every day with more advanced tools and medicines.
