Disobedience Day is observed on July 3 of every year. Disobedience Day is doubted to be an observation of civil or social disobedience as an act of protest. The day suggests people learn about civil disobedience and the reason for using it. Being very obedient may sometimes cause boredom as well as curtail our creativity and liberty. Living by rules everywhere and being watched every time may result in frustration and a feeling of being controlled. So take a break and let loose those rules. Step out a little to enjoy yourself, do things on your own, and feel the freedom that you always wanted. This day doesn’t encourage people to be utterly disobedient to their parents, teachers, government, or society, but little disobedience may help in refreshing oneself.
“Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.” – Henry David Thoreau
History of Disobedience Day
Our research team couldn’t find the creator or the origin of Disobedience Day. The exact reason to celebrate the day is not clear. The reason can be either to promote the beliefs of Civil Disobedience or to tell people that it is fine not to obey few rules in their life. Civil obedience is a nonviolent implementation against certain rules, laws, and demands of the government, as it may seem unfair to the public. It is similar to the movements like ahimsa or satyagraha adopted by the people of India. It is a day to matter your conscience rather than human law.
