National Cat Herders Day is celebrated on December 15th of each year. At times, we would feel a few works are impossible. We would have come across the word, herding cats refer to those futile or difficult tasks. The frustration a person faces until the completion of those difficult tasks cannot be expressed. Why don’t we recognize those cat herdings with a celebration Day on the calendar? To honor, cherish, and appreciate those people who work towards completing impossible tasks, National Cat Herders Day is being celebrated.
“Cats always know whether people like or dislike them. They do not always care enough to do anything about it.” – Winifred Carriere
History of National Cat Herders Day
The year in which National Cat Herders Day was first celebrated is unknown. Wellcat.com established this celebration Day. It is a day that honors those who feel that they are tasked with the impossible. The Cat Herders Day recognizes their frustration of trying to manage the unmanageable task. It may be an impossible task given at the workplace, home, school, or in areas of one’s life. When such a situation occurs, then it feels like herding cats.
There is a mention that this idea of using herding cats was popularized by Dave Platt, an information technologies expert. He had referred to the term as, “Managing senior programmers is like herding cats.” The cats are usually independent and alone and get distracted easily. Likewise, many programmers would have the same characteristics. At times the task given to them seems to be an impossible thing, just like how we cannot see a herd of cats. When you have faced such situations, then this Day celebrates you.
