Assistance Dog Day is celebrated on August 4 of every year. The Day recognizes and honors the assistance dogs and their trainers, and aims to increase funds awareness of the work they do. Assistance dogs will improve the quality of life for countless people who live with disabilities or illness, and this Day celebrates these four-legged friends.
“Veterans report that service dogs help break their isolation. People will often avert their eyes when they see a wounded veteran. But when the veteran has a dog, the same people will come up and say, ‘Hi’ to pet the dog and then strike up a conversation.” – Al Franken

There are several kinds of Assistance Dogs from the well-known guide dogs and hearing alert service dogs that help individuals with vision and hearing loss, to lesser-known helpers like seizure alert and medical alert dogs that can recognize the signs of heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, and much more.
