Z Day is an annual celebration commemorated on January 1st of every year. All of us know that the letter Z is the last of the alphabet and most often, the names are called in the alphabetical order as a standard. If you have got anyone’s name with the starting letter as Z, then this celebration day is just for them. Often the person or the organization name with the letter Z will stand at the last when called in alphabetical order. On Z Day, they can go first in line and get the work done without needing to wait until the last. They are allowed to stand in the front for a change on this Day.
“I like all things grammatical, and I had already written several books about parts of speech, and even the alphabet, so everything that makes up a sentence and even a word was covered except for punctuation.” – Brian P. Cleary
History of Z Day
The history, origin, and founder of Z Day are unknown. There is also no mention of the year in which this celebration started. The creator of this Day has aimed at making the alphabet Z stand at first for a day. The letter Z is the 26th and final letter in the modern English alphabet. When the name of a person or a company is called in alphabetical order, then the name with Z as the starting letter will be called at the last. For a change, the names beginning with the letter Z can make themselves stand at first for a day in the calendar. The alphabet Z is the most frequently used letter in written English. It is pronounced as Zed or Zee. The modern English orthography of the letter ⟨z⟩ usually represents the sound /z/.
The letter Z was the seventh letter in the Semitic symbol, named zayin. The name zayin means “weapon” or “sword.” It merely represented either the sound /z/ as in English and French or /dz/ as in the Italian zeta, zero. The Greek form of the letter Z was an imminent copy of the Phoenician Zayin. The Greek inscriptional form throughout history remained the same as the Greeks called the letter Zeta. In Latin, the origin of the current alphabet, had the letter Z at the beginning of the alphabet before it was replaced by the letter G. The letter was then replaced due to the “z” sound in the Latin changing to “r” by the rhotacism in the fifth century B.C.
The letter Z is more common in American English than in British English. Z is used in writing to represent the act of sleeping with the use of multiple z’s like ‘zzzz.’ Z was part of the earliest form of the Latin alphabet which was adapted from Etruscan. The English alphabet in earlier times used by children had terminated not with Z but with ‘&’ or related other typographic symbols. The Z Day celebrates all the things named with the twenty-sixth letter of the alphabet, the Z. It is a Day that puts the last letter first, and the name with A can enjoy being the first from the next day.
