Beaujolais Nouveau Day is commemorated on the third Thursday of every November. This year it will be celebrated on November 16. It is a national festival observed to honor the two-month-old Beaujolais Nouveau red wine. The day marks the celebration of the wine, its region, and its release. As per the law of France, the wine will be released at 12.01 a.m., just weeks after the wine grapes have been harvested. On this day, parties will be held throughout the country.
History of Beaujolais Nouveau Day
The celebration of the day was started in the year 1970s, but only in 1985, Beaujolais Nouveau’s release date was changed officially to the third Thursday in November. Beaujolais Nouveau is a unique variety of wine created from the delicious jewel-like Gamay grapes grown in the Beaujolais region of France. The Beaujolais Nouveau will be released on the third Thursday in November, and there will be a competition to get the first bottle released for sale. For several years, the wine was only a local affair, and it changed in 1951 with the support of wine marketing wizards. They wanted to look out how to earn the Beaujolais wine harvest more profitable and the wine more internationally recognized. So they decided to release the wine in the middle of November. Moreover, they started an annual race to witness who could get their Beaujolais Nouveau to the Paris markets first. The competition becomes very popular among the media, and the release of Beaujolais Nouveau was a full-blown national event by the year 1970. From then, the day and the wine become very popular throughout the world.
