Howl at the Moon Day is celebrated annually on October 26th. Have you ever tried howling like a wolf? If not, this is the perfect day to give it a try and greet the moon with a howl! Just look up, tilt your head, and let out a howl. While the origins of this day aren’t entirely clear, it seems to encourage people to step outside and howl at the moon, embracing their inner wolf.
“When you hear that howl alone at night in the forest, it’s one of the most frightening sounds you’ll ever hear.” – Tim Cope

History of Howl At The Moon Day
The history of this day goes back to 2009. On April 26, 2009, Johnny DePalma, founder of Umbrella Books, created the event, originally named The Planet Wide Moon Howl Event. The celebration encourages people to howl at the moon like a wolf. In mythology, the wolf is a powerful symbol often associated with the moon. Although the image of a wolf howling at the moon is common, the howl is not actually connected to the moon. Wolves, being nocturnal, howl mainly to communicate with their pack.
Additionally, the wolf-moon connection is seen in the myth of werewolves, or lycanthropes, believed to be humans who transform into wolf-like creatures during a full moon.
