It is June 21st. Let’s celebrate National Wagyu Day. This day is celebrated every year to recognize the delicacy of the Wagyu meat. Wagyu is a Japanese breed of cattle that produces the most expensive meat in the world. It is well-known for its increased fat percentage and marbling texture that melts in your mouth. Though the origin of Wagyu is Japan, the National Wagyu Day celebration has begun in the US.
“Wagyu is something that every meat lover should experience at least one” – Robb Walsh.
History of National Wagyu Day
Since 1868, Wagyu meat consumption has been popular in Japan. Then, the Wagyu cattle were brought to the US in 1976. Cross-breeding of Wagyu cattle resulted in producing four different kinds of Wagyu cattle. They are black, brown, shorthorn, and polled. These cows were raised until they were 7-10 months old by special breeders and sold to farmers.
According to the research, these cows will be grown in a relaxed and stress-free environment, making their meat more tender. A specialized diet for these cows makes their meat more delicious and healthy.
Wagyu meat was a special meal in Japan a long time ago. Before 1860, Wagyu cattle were only used as work animals. And after a political revolution, the Japanese normalized eating Wagyu beef.
The consumption of Wagyu beef has been occurring for more than 100 years, but the origin of National Wagyu Day has happened more recently. Steve Haddadin, a steak gourmet, has started celebrating National Wagyu Day on June 21, 2022. This particular date was chosen to celebrate the founder’s birthday, Steve Haddadin.
His main motive for celebrating Wagyu Day was to create an awareness of the incredible meat and rigorous authentication process of preparing the delicious beef. This authentication process was even unknown to some chefs. So, Steve Haddadin has created this day to celebrate and learn more about Wagyu. You can request a copy of the authentication certificate from the chef or butcher to authenticate Wagyu.
