National Roller Coaster Day comes on August 16 of every year. On this day, you will find people at amusement parks and theme parks across the country to participate in National Roller Coaster Day.
“Trajectories aren’t linear. Life’s just a roller coaster. If you’re getting a chance to do cool stuff, and it’s varied stuff, just enjoy it. I guess I’m a believer in the randomness of life rather than it being a linear trajectory or an arc, a consistent smooth arc, towards anything.” – Riz Ahmed
History of National Roller Coaster Day
Ricard Knudsen and J.G. Taylor received a U.S patent in 1878 for the device referred to as a wooden roller coaster. It consists of two adjacent railway tracks which ran between two towers carrying four-passenger cars. The force of gravity will gently pull the cars down in sloping hills. Then the cars would be hauled up by the elevator in the different tower for the return trip. Interestingly, neither J.G. Taylor nor Ricard Knudsen constructed their device, the only thing they did is getting a U.S patent for that instrument on August 16. Hence August 16 is chosen as the day to celebrate National Roller Coaster Day. After several years, LaMarcus A. Thompson, enterprising gentleman built a similar device enterprising gentleman “Switchback Railway,” at Coney Island, New York, in 1884. Thompson is known for developing roller coasters, and sometimes he is also called the father of gravity rides. In his lifetime, he accumulated nearly thirty patents related to roller coaster technologies.
