National Buy a Book Day is celebrated on September 7. TV and movies have taken up our lives these days. That’s not to say that seeing certain TV shows or movies is a waste of our time. There are many well-made, thought-provoking things to be observed. And, of course, thankfulness to Kindle, carrying even multiple books around at the same time has become infinitely easier and more practical. However, it is a bit sad how the traditional art of reading a regular paper book seems to be steadily fading away into the past.
“Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for each dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn’t carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life.” – Stephen King
It seldom seems as though children today do not even know the scent of an old book, a book that has affected the lives of so many, and how wonderful it can be to settle down on the lounge with such a book on a rainy day and escape into the world it creates. National Buy a Book Day was set up for the purpose of suggesting to people how much joy simplistic black print on a white background can bring when it stimulates your imagination and transports you far away.
History of National Buy a Book Day
National Buy a Book Day was formed in 2012 to educate people about the significance of books to our culture and civilization as a whole. It is inarguable that publications have been one of the greatest contributors to the advancement of the human race, bypassing the hearts of many over the ages, exciting their imaginations, and encouraging them to see the world in many lights. Books have also completed the simple but vital purpose of passing knowledge down from generation to generation. The authors of National Buy a Book Day want nothing more than for people to take a moment to relish books and their numerous roles in the human experience.

How to Celebrate National Buy a Book Day
The best way to feast on this day is to do what its creators meant for us to do: buy a book. National Buy a Book Day does not need you to spend excessive amounts of money. All you have to do to experience it thoroughly is invest even a small sum of money in a book, either first-hand or second-hand, and then cover up all of the knowledge and wisdom in it. Especially if you haven’t studied an actual book in a long time, you are sure to be pleasingly surprised at just how quickly a well-written book draws you in, making you as much a portion of the story as the characters in it. And do not be deceived into thinking that the only books worth reading are ones written hundreds of years ago. There are many contemporaneous authors alive and active today who pen masterpieces each year. Daniel Woodrell, for instance, wrote the critically acclaimed and tremendously powerful novel “Winter’s Bone” which was later modified into an equally acclaimed film starring Jennifer Lawrence. J.K. Rowling, the author of the world-famous Harry Potter series, has been called one of the most powerful women in Britain for her children and teenagers she fell in love with reading. In other words, it doesn’t matter whether you like the classics or contemporary history or whether you can manage to buy a brand-new hardcover book or just a dog-eared softcover book from the neighborhood thrift shop. You can celebrate National Buy a Book Day anyway. You can use the hashtag #BuyaBookDay to post on social media.
