National Postal Worker Day is observed on July 1 of each year. The day is celebrated to recognize and thank the vast number of people working in the postal service department, for their dedication and handwork in delivering all the mails and packages at the right time. Postal workers offer a vital and affordable service to the public. A postal worker who works at post offices does the duty of hand delivering the emails daily, loading and unloading mail trucks, etc. In the US, around 486,000 people are working to provide 155 billion emails by walking an average of 4 to 8 miles each day to ensure prompt delivery of letters on their doorstep. No hard weather conditions could stop them from working, including snow, sweat through temperatures, rain, or even wind. It is marked throughout history that the women employees of United States postal services were largely assigned to the head posts than men. Famous people like Presidents Abraham Lincoln, William McKinley, Harry S. Truman, Statesman Benjamin Franklin, Walt Disney, etc. have worked in various posts in the department. Hence, observe National Postal Worker Day by respecting and encouraging postal workers.
“The Postal Service delivers mail six days a week to nearly 140 million addresses. Every year this number increases by 2 million.” – Joe Baca
History of National Postal Worker Day
National Postal Worker Day was founded by a Seattle-area carrier in 1997 to honor the fellow employees of the postal service. Today is a day dedicated to thanking all the workers of the United States Postal Service who work tirelessly to serve you. These employees work six days a week with commitment and interest, and they are the main reason behind the efficient mail delivery system. Hence, recognize and thank your postal worker for doing their duty rightly.
