National Frozen Food Day is celebrated on March 6 of every year. National Frozen Day celebrates those yummy foods and snacks in your freezer. The invention of the freezer made this possible. But the methods and techniques to prepare frozen food make them great, and you can store them in a frozen state until you want them. Just imagine how you will be your life without the frozen dinner. On National Frozen Food Day, visit the nearby frozen food aisle and stock up your freezers with frozen food for future use.
“We’re all moving at such a high rate that we have to grab the frozen dinners and the McDonald’s. We can’t make it a way of life – we have to get back to real, simple, clean good foods. It will save our lives on so many levels; not just spina bifida, but obesity, diabetes, everything. Food is our medicine.” Nicole Ari Parker
History of National Frozen Food Day
National Frozen Food Day was created on March 6, 1984. In Proclamation #5157, President Ronald Reagan said:
“Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim March 6, 1984, as Frozen Food Day, and I call upon the American people to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
Nowadays, the frozen food aisle can be seen in every grocery store. The flash freezing of vegetables, meats, fruits, and seafood to preserve the flavor and quality of food was first started by Clarence Frank Birdseye II. But the preservation of foods was in practice before Birdseye had started his experimentation with this process. The flash freezing created small crystals of ice which prevent the cell wall from bursting and the large crystals of ice turn the food into mush. In 1930, General Food Corporation which owns the Birdseye label started selling 26 products to the 18 retail stores in and around Springfield, Massachusetts. The products and the name which Birdseye inspires continue today.
In 1954, Swanson created The frozen dinners (TV Dinners). It will not require any cooking skills. Just preheat the oven and cook the frozen food for the required length of time. The microwave invention also changed the frozen food types. Over the years, it has been developed to meet the requirements of consumers. Even, family-sized meals, health-conscious meals, and even organic meals may hit the markets within a few years.
