Mannam Jayanthi
Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai was born on 2 January 1878 and passed away on 25 February 1970. His birthday is celebrated as Mannam Jayanthi. Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai was a social reformer and a freedom fighter from Kerala, India. He began his career as a teacher in 1893, and from 1905 he started practising law, in the Magistrates Courts. He was recognised as the founder of the Nair Service Society, which claims to represent the Nair community that constitutes almost 14.5% of the population of the state. His main ambition was to uplift the Nair community status and later became full-time secretary of the Nair Service Society. He fought for social equality, demanding the public roads near the temple at Vaikom be opened to low caste Hindus. Padmanabhan is considered as a visionary reformer who organised the Nair community under the NSS. Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai is regarded as the reformer and moral guide of Nairs.
