National Napping Day is observed annually on March 11. It is the day that provides everyone with the opportunity to have a nap and catch up on the hour of sleep lost due to the spring-forward time change. A needed rest only makes you feel better and also improves the activity. After having the extra time of sleep, a person will notice that they will be more energetic. Numerous studies have shown that short 20 minute naps are the most effective. Improvements in alertness, productivity, and mood have all been shown to improve with this type of snooze. The United States looks to be becoming more sleep-deprived, and it may be the busy lifestyle that keeps us from napping and naps does not essential makeup for short nighttime sleep, a short nap of 20 minutes that help to improve mood, alertness, and performance. Nappers are in good company: Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, and George W. Bush are known to have valued an afternoon nap.

History of National Napping Day
In Boston University Professor William Anthony, Ph.D., and Camille Anthony created the National Napping Day 1999 as an effort to spotlight the health benefits of catching up on quality sleep. They chose this particular Monday because Americans are more nap-ready than usual after losing an hour of sleep to daylight saving time. Mammalian species are polyphasic sleepers which means that they sleep for short periods all day. Only Humans are part of the minority of monophasic sleepers, meaning that our days are separated into two distinct, one for sleep and one for wakefulness. It is not clear that this is the natural sleep pattern.
