History of Niagara Falls Runs Dry Day
The founder and the year from when Niagara Falls Runs Dry Day was in the celebration are anonymous. However, the occurrence of Niagara Falls Runs Dry dates back more than centenaries ago. It was on March 29th in the year 1848, the ice blockages have caused the rivers to run dry, and reduced the water flow. There was no water flow over the great cataract for about 30 or 40 hours. Niagara Falls’s 3,160 tons of water per second flow thus came to a halt. The first to notice this incident was an American farmer who had gone out for a stroll just before midnight on March 29. What he noticed was the absence of the thundering roar of the falls, which usually existed. Soon, he went to the edge of the river, and he couldn’t see any water. As a result, several water-living creatures died, and also the mills and factories had to shut down as the waterwheels had stopped. March 29 was not the only dry day, as no water had flowed over the falls throughout the daylight hours of March 31.
