World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated on April 2 of every year. The Day is created to encourage the member states of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about children throughout the world. The day will be celebrated with unique fundraising and awareness-raising events. The World Autism Awareness Day aims mainly at increasing people’s awareness about people, especially children with autism. The educational activities and exhibitions will be conducted for teachers, parents, and healthcare workers to showcase their work created by children with autism. Hence the day is to raise awareness among people about children with autism.
“I look at autism like a bus accident, and you don’t become cured of a bus accident, but you can recover.” – Jenny McCarthy
History of World Autism Awareness Day
The World Autism Awareness Day is designed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 62/139. Autism is a developmental disability that remains with the person throughout their life. It affects and slows down brain function. Peoples with autism often find it difficult to interact with social interaction, have problems with verbal and non-verbal communication, and have a limited set of interests and activities. The early signs of Autism appear before the child is three years old. Autism day is passed by the council in November 2007 and adopted on December 18, 2007. World Autism Day is proposed by the United Nations representative from Qatar. The resolution for World Autism Day was passed and adopted without any vote in the UN General Assembly, as a supplement to former United Nations initiatives to improve the human rights of every individual. Their autism awareness and research across the world have increased gradually. World Autism Awareness Day is one of the only four official health-specific United Nations days. This day brings every individual autism organization together across the country to aid in things like diagnosis, treatment, research, and awareness for those with that disorder.
