Electronic Greeting Card Day is celebrated on November 29 each year. The purpose of this day is to encourage people to send e-cards. These electronic greeting cards are not only easy and affordable but also environmentally friendly. By choosing electronic greeting cards over traditional paper ones, you contribute to reducing paper waste and help protect the environment.
With the Internet becoming an integral part of our daily lives over the past few decades, sending a customized e-card has become a fun and creative way to spread joy and cheer.
“I don’t turn to greeting cards for wisdom and advice, but they are a fine reflection of the general drift of the culture.” – Susan Orlean.

History of Electronic Greeting Card Day
The origin and history of Electronic Greeting Card Day are not well-documented. However, it is believed that this day was created by websites selling e-cards, likely sometime between the late 1990s and mid-2000s. Shortly after the advent of electronic mail in 1993, e-cards and e-greetings emerged. The first electronic greeting card website, The Electric Postcard, was created by Judith Donath at the MIT Media Lab in 1994.
Many of us still remember the low-resolution graphics of e-cards from the late 1990s. At the time, receiving an e-card in your email was an exciting experience. Today, features like Facebook stickers and stickers available on instant messaging platforms such as Telegram and Hike dominate this space. Despite the evolution of technology, the concept remains largely the same.
